Somaweera Chrandasiri Vidyalaya – Piliyandala is built up in a ground which was obtained by the Sri Lankan government in 1930. Initially the school was founded as a nursery and has taken the step as a primary school in 1965. Afterwards it gradually developed and in 1970 with 100 teachers, who taught to grades from 1 to 10. In 1977 the school was again started performing as a primary school with grades from 1 to 5. The school was among the best results of the Scholarship exam in the year 1991. As a result of this, the section head of grade 5 Ms. K. Perera obtained the opportunity to participate The Asia Pacific Children Get together.
Set of new buildings were built in the school along with a telephone extension system. In 2001 one of the issues, which was related to a play ground, was sorted out with the gain of an empty piece of land.
Currently 1431 students are educating from the school while 50 teachers perform. Among the recent activities of the school, develop the play ground, fixing a gate and fence, etc…
School then got the opportunity to obtain one of the main utilities via linking with Urban Development and NWSDB, reconstructed the main hall and to built an area for wastages. Again the reconstruction of “Buddhist Shrine” and establishment of several different activities such as, sport meets, alms giving etc…
All these efforts which were taken, taking at the moment and which are to be taken in the future lead only to a one aim and that is to make the students, the best and let them experience the best.
